There's always something special going on at CORE!

Healthy Holiday Tips

It’s that time of year again of holiday parties and busy schedules! But even during this busy time we can still maintain our health going into the New Year. If you follow these tips, you will be able to feel better and achieve better results following the New Year:

1)      Keep your blood sugar balanced

By eating every 2-3 hours and having a good combination of proteins, fats and carbs, you will be able to keep a balanced blood sugar and help prevent large cravings. This type of eating is especially important this time of year when most parties are filled with sweet desserts and poor food choices.

2)      Bring your own dish

This will be much easier to do at a potluck but at least offer to bring a healthy dish to pass to the party. This will at least give you one great food option during the party!

3)      Eat before the party

An easy way to avoid stuffing yourself is to eat a meal before going to a party. This way you will not be as tempted to overeat and it will be much easier to keep your blood sugar balanced.

4)      Don’t neglect your workouts

I know your schedule is probably full but making sure you take time for physical movement is very important. If you can find the time to make it in for a workout at CORE that’s awesome, but if not, don’t just scrap working out. Go for a walk with your friends and family (make sure you bundle up!), play with your kids, or do a bodyweight workout at home. Doing a couple sets of slow and controlled squats, lunges, pushups and planks can go a long way! Remember your goals for this season are to get stronger, so make sure you are under control, both with your body and your breath.

5)  Have fun!

Enjoy your time with people you care about and do not spend it hung up over perfecting your food and lifestyle choices. If you have a bad meal or miss a workout, forget about it and just get back on track the next day. The worst thing you can do is fret over all the little details and go all-or-nothing. Have some fun and help set yourself up for improved health in January!
